We live in a society of an imposed forgetfulness, a society that depends on public amnesia.

Feminism involves so much more than gender equality and it involves so much more than gender. Feminism must involve consciousness of capitalism (I mean the feminism that I relate to, and there are multiple feminisms, right). So it has to involve a consciousness of capitalism and racism and colonialism and post-colonialities, and ability and more genders than we can even imagine and more sexualities than we ever thought we could name.
Interpretation
Feminism extends beyond gender equality, encompassing an awareness of various intersecting social issues.
Angela Davis emphasizes that feminism is not limited to the pursuit of gender equality alone; it must also engage with the complexities of capitalism, racism, colonialism, and the diverse experiences of gender and sexuality. This broader understanding of feminism recognizes the interconnectedness of various forms of oppression and advocates for a more inclusive and comprehensive approach to social justice.

Translation rewrites a foreign text in terms that are intelligible and interesting to readers in the receiving culture. Doing so is akin to committing an act of ethnocentric violence by uprooting the text from the language and culture that gave it life. Translating into current, standard English at once conceals that violence and homogenizes foreign cultures.

Whatever sympathy I feel towards religions, whatever admiration for some of their adherents, whatever historical or biological necessity I see in them, whatever metaphorical truth, I cannot accept them as credible explanations of reality; and they are incredible to me in proportion to the degree that they require my belief in positive human attributes and intervenient powers in their divinities.
