Dwelling is not primarily inhabiting but taking care of and creating that space within which something comes into its own and flourishes.
Martin HeideggerRead
Language is the house of the truth of Being.
Interpretation
Language shapes our understanding of reality and existence.
Heidegger suggests that language is not merely a tool for communication but is fundamental to our very understanding of being and truth. It frames how we perceive the world and influences our thoughts, thus making it a foundational aspect of existence itself.
In practice
In a lecture on existentialism, one might quote Heidegger to emphasize how language informs our perception of reality.
Dwelling is not primarily inhabiting but taking care of and creating that space within which something comes into its own and flourishes.
Celebration... is self restraint, is attentiveness, is questioning, is meditating, is awaiting, is the step over into the more wakeful glimpse of the wonder - the wonder that a world is worlding around us at all, that there are beings rather than nothing, that things are and we ourselves are in their midst, that we ourselves are and yet barely know who we are, and barely know that we do not know all this.
Transcendence constitutes selfhood.
So long as we represent technology as an instrument, we remain held fast in the will to master it.
Everyone is the other and no one is himself.
The most thought-provoking thing in our thought-provoking time is that we are still not thinking.
I love order. It's my dream. A world where all would be silent and still, and each thing in its last place, under the last dust.
I am very astonished that the scientific picture of the real world around me is deficient. It gives a lot of factual information, puts all our experience in a magnificently consistent order, but it is ghastly silent about all and sundry that is really near to our heart, that really matters to us. It cannot tell us a word about red and blue, bitter and sweet, physical pain and physical delight; it knows nothing of beautiful and ugly, good or bad, God and eternity.
One is often told that it is a very wrong thing to attack religion, because religion makes men virtuous. So I am told; I have not noticed it.
God is the original, master forgiver. Each time we grope our reluctant way through the minor miracle of forgiving, we are imitating his style. I am not at all sure that any of us would have had imagination enough to see the possibilities in this way to heal the wrongs of this life had he not done it first.
Capablanca was snatched too early from the chess world. With his death we have lost a great chess genius, the like of whom we will never see again.
I take it that what all men are really after is some form or perhaps only some formula of peace.
