I am a Christian, not because someone explained the nuts and bolts of Christianity, but because there were people willing to be nuts and bolts.
Rich MullinsRead
I think I would rather live on the verge of falling and let my security be in the all-sufficiency of the grace of God than to live in some pietistic illusion of moral excellence. Not that I don't want to be morally excellent but my faith isn't in the idea that I'm more moral than anybody else. My faith is in the idea that God and His love are greater than whatever sins any of us commit.
Interpretation
This quote emphasizes the importance of reliance on God's grace over self-righteousness in moral excellence.
Rich Mullins expresses a profound understanding of faith by articulating a preference for living on the edge of vulnerability rather than in the confines of self-deception regarding moral superiority. He acknowledges human imperfection and emphasizes that true security and goodness come from the grace and love of God, rather than from one's own perceived righteousness. This perspective highlights a humble approach to spirituality that prioritizes God's love over personal achievement.

Christianity is not about building an absolutely secure little niche in the world where you can live with your perfect little wife and your perfect little children in your beautiful little house where you have no gays or minority groups anywhere near you. Christianity is about learning to love like Jesus loved and Jesus loved the poor and Jesus loved the broken.

Forged in the fires of human passion, choking on the fumes of human rage, with these out hells and our heavens, so few inches apart, we must be awfully small, and not as strong as we think we are.
Father of mercy and God of all consolation, graciously look upon me and impart to me the blessing which flows from this holy Sacrament. Overshadow me with Your loving kindness, and let this divine Mystery bear fruit in me.
I grew up in a very religious family and it is the motivating force to every thing I do. I am fortunate to have had adults all around me who really lived their faith, in helping other people and doing the best you can do.

God actually delights in exalting our inability. He intentionally puts his people in situations where they come face to face with their need for him.
With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end.
