And at least in poetry you should feel free to lie. That is, not to lie, but to imagine what you want, to follow the direction of the poem.
Mark StrandRead
A life is not sufficiently elevated for poetry, unless, of course, the life has been made into an art.
Interpretation
Life can inspire poetry only when it is transformed into art.
Mark Strand suggests that the essence of life must be refined and shaped into art for it to resonate poetically. It implies that everyday experiences, when viewed through the lens of artistic expression, gain depth and significance, elevating them to a level worthy of poetic reflection.
In practice
During a literary discussion, one might quote this to highlight how personal experience shapes artistic expression.
And at least in poetry you should feel free to lie. That is, not to lie, but to imagine what you want, to follow the direction of the poem.

There's a certain point, when you're writing autobiographical stuff, where you don't want to misrepresent yourself. It would be dishonest.

Often, especially young artists, you feel like you should be doing something. And I think that can be very destructive because creativity is about connecting with the stuff that's deep inside you and making something out of that.
It would seem that the more irresponsible and crafty one is, the more likely one is to have a talent for storytelling.
Great art picks up where nature ends.
I am the eggman They are the eggmen! I am the walrus!
When I have worries, fears or a love affair, I have the luck of being able to transform it into a poem.
